Emerging from the COVID-19 lockdowns, many of us are perhaps more aware than ever of the centrality of cities to our human experience. Cities are increasingly confronting adverse impacts of many other challenges too: climate change, economic crises, and demographic changes. These challenges to cities also reveal opportunities. Might we recognize how precious the social fabric of communities is now that we have been kept at a distance? Could this be the moment to prioritize a walkable city without automobile pollution, improving population health with more healthy environments and more active forms of mobility?
Oslo is an ideal site to reflect on what makes a vibrant, healthy, sustainable, and resilient city. Oslo is one of the fastest-growing European cities, consistently regarded as a model green city, promoting a high quality of life for its inhabitants.
Oslo - Beyond the Postcard provides virtual tours of Oslo highlighting facets of the city – profound and pedestrian, quintessential and quotidian – of Oslo’s urban character and city life.
Excerpts from the forthcoming series of place-based essays about historical and contemporary developments contributing to city life will be posted here and linked to various social media accounts. Visitors will be able to tour Oslo’s districts, explore historical sites, experience aspects of Oslo’s urbanism, and learn about emerging developments and details about the city and its planning for climate adaptation and sustainable development.
Follow the development of the tours here and join the conversation with a community of related interests across social media channels.
This project is made possible through support from Oslo Municipality.
